Janine and Stephen’s wedding photography at Allerton Castle
By pure coincidence I had two weddings at Allerton Castle over a week, I had never photographed a wedding here before so it was unusual for me to be at the same venue for two weddings so close together. I was recommended to both couples by another couple whose wedding I photographed a few years ago, they were also at both of the weddings. This was the first of my two weddings at Allerton.
Allerton Castle is in North Yorkshire, a couple of hours up the A1 from me. It really is one of those venues that takes your breath away when you first see it. A house has stood on this site back to around 1066 although the current house dates back to 1848. Allerton Castle was extensively damaged in a fire 9 years ago and has since been completely restored. Described as ‘England’s grandest and most elegant gothic revival stately home, Allerton Castle is a popular venue for weddings.
My coverage started at Janine and Stephen’s home at East Keswick near Leeds, then on to a pub to catch up with Stephen before heading to All Hallows Church in Bardsey for the wedding ceremony. Over the 14 years I have been doing wedding photography I have had a fair few late brides, but this was the first time all the guests arrived late after the bus got caught up in traffic. After the ceremony guests boarded the buses for the trip to Allerton Castle.
Stepping into Allerton Castle the first thing you notice is the height of the ceiling in the Great Hall, some 70ft high it was certainly a talking point with the guests. Then there is the ballroom with amazing plaster work and bright blue walls.
Janine, Stephen and their guests enjoyed the spring sunshine in the grounds of Allerton Castle, the wind caught Janine’s veil leading to a lovely series of photographs.
