These are some of the aerial photographs I have taken around Higham Ferrers in Northamptonshire. The photographs are taken with a drone for which I have permission to operate for commercial use from the CAA. I’m able to fly to 400ft altitude although often my photography is from lower, with a full sized aircraft you are not permitted to fly below 500ft which is often too high for aerial photography. I’m a Northamptonshire wedding photographer but I like to try my hand out at many types of photography for personal projects including aerial photography and street photography.
The quadcopter is fitted with a fail safe in case the signal from the transmitter is lost, in which case it will return to the point of take off and land itself. It makes a very stable platform for aerial photography as it will stay in one place using GPS. I have taken aerial photographs from helicopters in the past, not only are these very expensive to charter per hour there are also restrictions on how low you can fly. Using a quadcopter for aerial photography gets around the noise issues and makes it possible to take off and land almost anywhere.
One of the drones I operate weighs less than 249g which allows flights in built up areas like Higham Ferrers. You can see more of my Northamptonshire aerial photography by clicking this link.
